THE JUDSON COLLEGE SOUTHEASTERN COVENANT Preamble: Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Judson College at Southeastern is a distinctively Christian covenantal community that seeks to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by equipping students to serve the Church and fulfill the Great Commission. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we the students of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Judson College at Southeastern hereby commit to honoring the Lord in all areas of life and practice (1 Corinthians 10:31, Colossians 3:17), striving to know and obey Christ and His Word, and taking the initiative to witness to the saving power of Jesus Christ through both word and deed. Each one of us further pledges to embody the “more excellent way” (1 Corinthians 12:31) of love for God and our fellow students (Mark 12:29-31) by making the following commitments:
1.) I will maintain involvement in a local church, regularly worshiping, and studying God’s Word with a body of believers.
2.) I will adhere to the following standards, which are representative of institutional policies as defined in the Student Handbook.
a. I will do my best in my academic work to please the Lord, so that I may be “a workman who does not need to be ashamed” (2 Timothy 2:15).
b. I will tell the truth, and my academic work will be my own (refer to sections, “Student Behavior Subject to Discipline,” and “Plagiarism & Cheating”).
c. I will conduct myself as a witness of Jesus, treating people with grace and kindness (refer to section, “Student Behavior Subject to Discipline”).
d. I will follow the prescribed Chapel policies (refer to section, “Chapel Policies”).
e. I will keep my mind and body pure and free from any form of sexual sin, including pornography (refer to sections under, “Student Behavior Subject to Discipline” and “Commitment to Purity”).
f. I will be financially responsible, pay my bills, and work to support myself as necessary (refer to section, “Student Behavior Subject to Discipline”).
g. Both on and off campus, and while classes are both in and out of session, I will not possess or use alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, or tobacco products, and I will not misuse prescription drugs or other controlled substances (refer to section, “Student Behavior Subject to Discipline”).
3.) I will faithfully honor the Biblical teachings related to all aspects of marriage (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6).
a. If I am married, I will remain faithful to my spouse in the bond of the marriage covenant. I will live a chaste and holy life with regard to sexuality and sexual expression in the context of covenant marriage. I will prioritize my family over my studies, I will learn and follow the instructions in God’s Word concerning my conduct toward my spouse and my children, and I will seek to leverage my marriage for maximal participation in Gospel ministry.
b. If I am single, I will commit to living a chaste and holy life with regard to sexuality and sexual expression as God directs for my singleness (Ephesians 5:3, 1 Thessalonians 4:1-9), and I will seek to utilize my singleness for maximal participation in Gospel ministry (1 Corinthians 7:25-32).
4.) In love, with concern for the health of the community and in the hope of restoration of my brothers and sisters, I commit to personally honor this Covenant, report myself for any Covenant violation, confront any violation of this Covenant by another student, and report any breach of the Covenant that I witness or become aware of.
